Barnaby
Located in Covent Garden, this flagship store for chocolate bar brand ‘Barnaby’ brings chocolate-making to the forefront of the customer experience.
Built Works, in collaboration with Morrisstudio, developed the store’s architectural elements to reflect Barnaby’s whimsical and traditional chocolate-making heritage. Inspired by the Edwardian town of Bournville, home to Cadbury’s factory workers, the design embraces Arts & Crafts influences with traditional techniques, natural materials, and skilled craftsmanship.
A standout feature is the oversized solid oak shopfront, extended from the unit’s original structure and detailed with tusk and tenon joints. It protrudes onto the street, inviting passersby to glimpse the chocolate-making process. Inside, a compact yet functional layout integrates a kitchen and retail space, where oak joinery and panelling complement silver granite worktops and a vaulted ceiling. The centrepiece is the bespoke floor tiling, designed with ceramic studio Common Objects, inspired by chocolate bars and coloured to match 1930s Bournville adverts. Handmade in the Lake District, the tiles balance durability with a unique, crafted aesthetic, embodying Barnaby’s brand ethos.
