Victorian terrace house conversion
The purpose of this conversion/ renovation project was to create a beautiful, fluid, generous space to fit the need of a young modern family
y turning around the traditional terrace house's layout we have achieved a flexible space with 2 entertaining areas connected by a kitchen - that is the heart of the house.
The living areas can be used in many different ways, due to the flexibility given by a system of sliding and folding doors that allow both connection and privacy. The side extension brings lateral space to the back of the house, introducing a pacing calm sense of stillness and arrival and yet in total sympathy with the original features of the house. It is a small subtle gesture that enhances modern living and respects the heritage of the past.
A similar approach has been used for the design of the stair that leads to the attic conversion. This feels like the continuation of the house main stair rather then as a loft access and allows the newly built top floor room to feel as part of the premium spaces of the house.
