Arts centre on the harbourside at Lerwick in the Shetland Isles
The centre sits between new council offices and the Shetland Museum and Archives building on the Hay’s Dock in Lerwick.
The two large wedges of accommodation, that contain an auditorium and a cinema, turn their back on the water and are both covered by a long, monopitch roof. Where the two roofs intersect, you find the entrance foyer to the front and the two-storey café/bar to the rear.
The building is clad is an aluminium skin which wraps around and protects the acoustically sensitive spaces. Internally, timber linings in the public spaces give a contrast to the external feel of the building.
