Geodesic dome-like centre providing series of exhibition rooms, interpretation spaces and an open amphitheatre to house both permanent and temporary exhibits of nature
The building is organised around multiple routes through the horticultural and exhibition spaces, allowing for the themes of Eden Project to be explored by visitors in a number of ways.
A soaring transparent roof is shaped by a number of factors: The creation of spaces high enough to accommodate the plants, the harvesting of rainwater for use in the building, and the collection of solar-heated air.
This heated air drives a seasonal heat storage system, as well as powering internal wind turbines as part of the process of venting the horticultural space.
The roof's ETFE covering allows light for the plant exhibits, which are located on south facing terraces to maximise exposure to sunlight.
Internal heat and lighting systems are backed up by the Eden Project's biomass system, creating a carbon neutral structure in terms of heating and hot water.
