After a career in London, our client returned to her family's Herefordshire farm, managed by the Purseys since 1974.

With its steep topography the site is used for livestock farming, with cows and sheep grazing on the fields most of the year. The decision was made to offer a break for city dwellers amongst the livestock of the farm and its far reaching views across eight neighbouring counties. The three stand-alone high-end holiday lets are staggered, following the topography of the site and creating a private entrance situation whilst screening its wider context. It is only after having passed through the deep threshold, that the location is revealed to guests as they arrive in front of a large panorama window. The open plan living spaces end with the horizon while a sheltered terrace extends the insulated envelope onto a private outdoor seating area. The black stained timber cladding and dual pitched roof assigns the development as a backdrop of its setting. The sun’s path is imprinted on the elevations with shadows cast by the exaggerated roof overhang. All three one bed holiday lets were entirely manufactured off-site in the controlled environment of a workshop in three individual sections. Each section was finished to include pre-installed bathrooms, kitchens, underfloor heating, all wiring, and the finished envelope with windows ready for transport. The sections were craned into position atop pre-prepared foundations and connected to the site services. This process was completed within hours limiting disruption to both the site and its livestock. A holiday is a break from the daily routine of our lives. This development and its connection to its setting offers an opportunity to escape the familiar and experience something new for the defined period of the stay.
