This simple timber-clad boat house, originally intended as place for reflection, became a versatile space to be outdoors as restrictions continued.
Capitalising on the tranquility, wildlife and scenery of an unused corner of the garden and positioned with lake views in mind, the glass doors that front the cabin open on to Kitchen Architecture's sociable outdoor space, including kitchen island, wood oven, and seating area. With its main focus on outdoor living, all amenities are at hand for everything you could possibly need for entertaining outdoors.
The structure itself is timber – the owner wanted to be surrounded by wood and for it to be sympathetic to the landscape. BC pine was chosen to clad the indoors and out, and clay tiles for the roof were in keeping with nearby buildings.
As with all Kitchen Architecture projects, the space is inviting, understated and relaxed. A suspended steel staircase leads up to a small bedroom mezzanine while the beautifully engineered b2 free-standing workbench provide the sink and prep area with oven and fridge being from the free-standing iconic bulthaup system20 range.
