The Harlesden Town Garden Hub is a local meeting space in the heart of Harlesden in NW London

Located in a local park the HTG is a local community gardening initiative. Over the last year, Storp Weber Architects have been working on helping the HTG in their wish to create a more permanent base within the garden. Since being set up the garden has grown into a valuable community space bringing together people interested in gardening and healthy living.

Initiatives like the Green Club and the Library Green Club as used to raise awareness, teach how to grow plants and set up a garden, explore new self-grown food and to create new friendships. This project aims to transform the space, to help the community and to explore how architecture and design can help in the shaping of a more sustainable, liveable environment.

The design has been developed through community workshops on the high-street and in local schools to establish a clear brief, empowering the community to get involved in shaping their built environment. Together with the members of the Harlesden Town Garden, the Storp Weber Architects have identified the need to provide a better and more secure base for the ever-growing activities of the community.

To extend the appeal to new members, to grow the community the need for an indoor meeting space, a much-needed toilet, a kitchen area and more safe storage for the gardening tools. Built upon a 20-foot shipping container the complete built has been community-led without a main contractor.

The main building materials have been donated from the industry partners who in turn provided them with building workshops on how the materials can be installed correctly. The project was supported by the Bartlett School of Architecture Research Fund and students from Unit PG 13.
