Broadgate Tower in the London skyline
Edmund Sumner (website) Download Original
Tower to accommodate corporate open plan offices, which are flexible, unencumbered by columns and have natural daylighting
The brief was for efficient, relatively small, floorplates that would offer flexibility, quality views and natural light. As an addition to the London skyline the design had to consider the protected views from other prominent buildings around the city. The tower is shaped by these constraints.
External bracing provides support for column-free floorplates, alleviating the issues involved with internal configuration. The structure also breaks-up the facades through patterning.
