The remodelling of first and second floors of a grade II*-listed building for residential use

The project involved the remodelling of the first and second floors of the grade II*-listed building dating back to the early eighteenth century.

The work and was carried out in stages while the family was in residence so as to avoid significant disruption to the household.

At second floor level, a bathroom and small bedroom which retained all the original paneling were respectively converted into a walk-in wardrobe and a larger full bathroom. Services run underneath the cabinetry to an original soil and vent pipe stack within the new walk-in wardrobe, while all new cabinetry abutted the historic paneling in a completely reversible manner.

At first floor level, a cinema room with an ante room were converted into an ensuite guest bedroom which necessitated the introduction of a partition between main and ante rooms. While the former reception room to the front of the building became a music library.

Overall design, detailing and construction all sought to accommodate the client brief in a manner mindful of the special interest of the listed building.
