Seven-home low carbon terrace development meeting level 5 of the Code for Sustainable Homes
Gallon Close is a new-build residential scheme replacing a disused mediation centre, in close proximity to Charlton football ground, east London. The three-storey, four-bedroom family houses will be offered as general needs rental.
The scheme is intended to promote excellent sustainable living achieving Code for Sustainable Homes Level 5. To reach this target the design includes several green solutions.
The schemes' saw-toothed roof provides the optimum solar orientation for the photovoltaics while Structural Insulated Panel System (SIPS), solar water heating and a heat recovery system are also included. A communal 15,000 litre rain water harvesting, raised beds for growing vegetables and triple bins for recycling all add to the low carbon design.
The attention to detail has resulted in an air tightness test of 2.5m3/hr/m2 and annual CO2 emissions of -0.7kg/m2/year.
