Low energy building at Millenium Village offering a new kind of facility, integrating education and healthcare and providing a congregating centre for the local community
The two-form primary school accommodates up to 420 pupils and uses a spine of colour-coded drums to identify parts of classrooms along the main circulation route.
Both the School and Health Centre, which face south over landscaped gardens and playgrounds, are fully glazed to benefit from solar gain and daylighting.
Brightly coloured, automated awnings protect from unwanted heat and add a dynamic and human quality to the elevations. The consistency of the external cladding of vertical larch boarding on the more public elevations helps to unify the buildings.
A circular hall shared by the community acts as a gatepost to the Millennium Village.
