Chapel Cottage and The Secret Garden

The project was inspired by and was built within the footprint of the previous buildings on the site; a former piggery and joinery workshop.

Over the past 10 years, the previous buildings had become disused and derelict following the passing of the joiner. This moment inspired his family to use his previous workshop in order to create a space in memory of him, by converting them to holiday lets to enable members of the public to enjoy the beautiful countryside and coastline surrounding them in south-east Kent.

Given the development's location within the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the design was carefully developed in order to complement and enhance its immediate and wider surroundings. The contemporary timber cladding reflects its wooded environment while also acknowledging the joinery history surrounding the site.

Both compact buildings are flexible in use and can accommodate couples or a family of four and with added luxuries such as private outdoor hot tubs, log burners and contemporary open-plan living. These buildings provide an ideal setting for a relaxing break set deep within the Garden of England and since completion, the excellent occupancy rates illustrate that the building is already exceeding expectations and is bringing joy to its many visitors.
