KB Architects were engaged by RW Perio to design and deliver a new gum clinic in a Grade II listed building in Harley Street, London
The brief was to design two dental surgeries and a seminar room which was supported by back of house staff areas and a decontamination space. The clinic was designed within a conservation area so as part of this process we had to also apply for a listed building consent to Westminster City Council. This posed a significant challenge as the level of intrusion to the existing fabric of the base building which was handed over by landlord - Howard De Walden Estates, needed to be monitored in micro detail to ensure that the proposed concept did not damage the fabric of the existing listed building.
The new state of the art dental clinic is located on the second floor of the building and the floor area achieved is 112 sqm. We as part of the process worked closely with the client to develop an architectural and interiors brief which clearly defined the parameters for the project using Building Information Modelling (BIM). The concept proposed to meet the brief provided a modern, contemporary and minimalist architectural interiors palette which worked successfully in tandem with the existing listed period features of the building to create a fusion of modern and old which was a key design driver.
The design was also developed to be as clutter free as possible with all joinery and finishes bespoke designed and minutely detailed to ensure a clean and functional concept was delivered. The design team applied biophilic design principles to enhance the patient and staff experience, such as ceiling mounted interactive screens above patients displaying nature visuals and sounds. KBA were pleased to see the clinic go live and successfully operational earlier this month.
Annual CO2 emissions data (requested in kg/m2/year) was not provided.
