Canopy over retail space
Retail, leisure and mixed-use masterplan, regenerating the centre of Liverpool by connecting the business district, waterfront and shopping area
Re-developing a 42-acre area of central Liverpool, this mixed-used development of new and refurbished buildings, streets and spaces forms a new retail core for the city.
New elements include 148,500m2 of retail space, bars and restaurants as well as a bus station, television studios and a remodelled public park. This is bordered by a hotel, 600 apartments and a multi-screen cinema.
BDP acted as concept architect for five buildings and executive architect for a further nine. On BDP's advice, the client appointed 26 architectural practices to deliver the masterplan which provides clarified links between the city and its regenerated waterfront.
