Flagship store for booksellers Foyles

One of the largest bookstore to be built in the UK this century the shop is located in the former site of Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design on Charing Cross Road.

The bookshop contains 37,000 square feet of flexible retail space, spread across eight shop floors in the two halves of the four storey building and sells a range of over 200,000 different titles on four miles (6.5km) of shelves.

The exterior of the building has been cleaned and restored with a new rear extension that enlarges the ground, first and second floors. A roof extension is clad in carefully detailed zinc and complements the beautifully crafted original brickwork below.

Internally ad hoc accretions to the old art school building have been removed with the existing central lightwell enlarged to create a central atrium to allow daylight into the centre of the building.
