Twin house extensions and twin garden offices for a pair of semi-detached Edwardian houses in the Hyde Conservation area in Winchester

The pair of houses had both been altered and extended in the past, and had lost their original unity. Fortuitously the current owners both had similar tastes and requirements for their new extensions.

T2 architects were able to design a matching pair of single storey extensions which re-instate the original symmetry of the rear elevation, but clearly distinguish between original and new. While the brief from the two clients was different for the works to the interior of each house, both agreed that the exteriors should match.

The single storey extensions are of contemporary design and are clad in a mix of painted brick, in reference to the original houses, plus fibre cement cladding and green roofs.

Sliding-folding doors connect the houses to their gardens whilst the deep roof overhang provides shade from the southerly aspect. The oak lined exterior soffit wraps down to form a door concealing a log store on each house. The extensions are also complimented by a matching pair of self-contained garden studio offices and garden sheds. The same oak cladding as used on the house extensions is used on the office and shed doors.
