Four storey family house within the Wapping Wall Conservation Area, amidst 19th century wharfs and warehouses and also 1980s LDDC developments
The brief was to extend the house and reconfigure the internal layout whilst marrying the two local architectural influences.
Extending the external walls up by just 800mm (to satisfy the planners), rebuilding the roof at the higher level, lowering the existing loft floor and adding dormers allowed a whole new floor of accommodation to be added, increasing the overall floor area by a third. A side extension clad in painted kebony wood was added to enclose a small private terrace.
The internal reconfiguration involved moving the living room up to the first floor, providing a relocated open stair connecting to the enlarged kitchen / dining space on the ground floor which opens out onto the terrace.
