Major refurbishment and interior design of a run down flat in Mayfair
Formerly these were two separate flats which have been connected with a space defining spine.
This spine had to overcome various steps and level changes as the communal staircase is running across outside and below the flat and therefore caused head height restrictions.
This lead to the main concept, a meandering ribbon which becomes an inherent part of all main functions of the flat, the kitchen, the vertical and horizontal circulation as well as the bathroom furniture, i.e.bathtub
he ribbon runs through a glazed separation between corridor and bathroom, a screen that is made of electrochromic glass which can be changed to be an opaque screen.
Made out of precious solid walnut timber the ribbon creates a fitting character to typical interiors of flats in the area and at the same time a contrasting element to the white flooring.
