Extension to existing house to create a new dining room and entrance porch
The existing house is an unprepossessing two storey building built on a steep site with gravel covered gabions supporting the terrace in front.
The desire: a new dining room opening off the existing kitchen along with a separate entrance porch which would double up as a boot /cloak room freeing up the existing utility room.
Our design pulls the two elements together wrapping the extension round the house. To provide privacy, larch cladding screens the dining room from unannounced visitors. The extensive glazing to the south and west maximize the stunning views. A glazed slot roof light creates a sense of separation between the new element and existing building and brings daylight into the kitchen.
The new dining room with its large sliding door to the sheltered private terrace, has become the hub of the house linking to both kitchen and living room.
