Refurbishment of a 1930s house
The odd arrangement of gardens added on periodically and the overgrowth of trees meant that the main rooms did not get any light.
Planning restrictions guided several aspects of the design - the old tile cladding to the 1970s loft extension and the windows were changed while the size and massing had to remain.
The changes in ground levels inspired the structural engineer with a quadropod to the ground floor extension. The walls to the latter were clad in brick slips to allow for a light weight construction.
All the windows in the property were changed to double glazed ones matching the originals and all external walls have been insulated.
