A sustainable retrofit of a family home on the Thamesmead estate
Owned by Gallions Housing Association, the home on the Thamesmead Estate was constructed using a pre-cast ‘French Balency’ system with a minimal 50mm layer of insulation and single glazing. The addition of superinsulated external cladding and triple glazing throughout has achieved an 87 per cent reduction in CO2 emissions.
Fresh air is provided by a mechanical ventilation system with heat recovery meanwhile renewable electricity and water heating is provided by ten photovoltaic panels and a vacuum tube collector on the roof.
The project is currently being monitored using wireless monitoring equipment to record internal temperatures, CO2 levels, power consumption and energy generation.
