Erection of new foyer and workshop to existing theatre stage and auditorium
Incognito Theatre Group is a vibrant amateur theatre group with its own building in north London which it has occupied since 1948. It produces some six plays a year to award winning stand. Entirely voluntary funded the project was to build a new foyer, workshop toilets and lighting control box to replace a set of worn out ad hoc lean-too extensions.
Previously a lemonade factory the auditorium is an industrial Victorian building secreted, incognito, within an enclosed site to the rear gardens of surrounding terraced dwellings and adjacent to a local health centre and school playground.
The new extension is designed to be distinctly different to the existing building and from anything in the surrounding area. It is a faceted windowless form with cooper roof and walls making a clear distinction to the existing Auditorium which retains its original form and character. Disabled access and facilities internally augment the convivial space of the Foyer
The structure is a thin timber frame strutted externally to the workshop and internally to the foyer, plywood sheathed and copper tile clad.
