Medical science building on out of town campus
Andrew Lee (website) Download Original
Medical science faculty building constructed as part of a science campus on St Andrew's outskirts
The functions of the building are divided between non-specialist activities that can be accommodated with natural daylighting and low servicing (offices, seminar rooms, a café, social areas), and activities requiring high servicing (teaching and research laboratories, anatomy and dissection, and a 300-seat lecture theatre).
Differentiated plan-forms are used; the first a shallow, L-shaped block, the second a deep-plan, rectangular building. They meet together at ground-floor level, with views into the lecture theatre. Courtyards are formed in the angle of the 'L', where a first floor bridge links the two sections.
Sandstone cladding and native plants dress the building and landscape
