Refurbishment of a Grade II Listed leisure centre designed by Chamberlin Powell and Bon
The centre has been modernised with the refurbishment of the swimming pool, badminton court and changing rooms, addition of a gym and dance studio and the creation of a fully accessible, reception area and circulation routes.
The conglomeration of two formerly separate buildings, a two storey swimming pool and badminton court and the single storey club rooms, form an 'L' shaped form around a quadrangle.
The design aims to maintain the character of the original listed building with non-original accretions stripped away to reveal as much of the existing building as possible. The transparency of the swimming pool enclosure has been reinstated and the distinctive concrete vaults of the club rooms retained.
