Courtyard to house

Shared ownership social housing scheme on a tight infill site in Stoke Newington, London
The project combines a four storey single ‘infill’ house designed to fit within an existing terrace gap and to the rear a housing project of seven ‘mews’ style L-shaped designed houses and flats.
The L-shaped form of the houses, placed in a terrace means that the habitable rooms can be grouped around the courtyard elevation, taking advantage of daylighting and views. The splayed end wall and the natural taper towards the eastern end of the site, mean that the large sliding windows to the living/dining room have a generous view past the unit in front instead of looking directly onto a blank wall. The private courtyard garden, will act as an extra room to the houses in summer.
Great care has been taken to avoid overlooking so that each house has its main rooms oriented towards the afternoon sun and away from the windows in properties surrounding the site.
