Primary school designed around an external courtyard, with a focus on sustainability
The school is a complete replacement of the existing run down buildings and temporary classroom structures.
With an elliptical arrangement of classroom and office space the building allows views out, while maintaining the privacy of the central courtyard, a space used by the students as a playground and external classroom.
The school has the capacity to accommodate 210 pupils and the associated teaching staff, and has a specialist nursery for Autism Spectrum Disorder and community room as well as traditional teaching spaces.
Landscaping in and outside the boundary of the building has been designed to incorporate green space and create steps/furniture through the shifting of levels. Ramps are also designed into the landscape to provide suitable accessibility for disabled users.
The building has a green sedum roof, high levels of insulation and uses natural ventilation methods to cool the interior spaces. The orientation of the building allows for high levels of natural lighting.
