Outdoor pool at a members club within a Conservation Area in west London
The scheme comprises a 30m pool, a 12m children's pool, a changing room building and a cafe, integrated into the landscape of the club.
The new buildings aim to retain the qualities of the original 80 year old lido style buildings that they replace, while providing high quality, modern, accessible changing facilities organised into modules of wet and dry spaces.
The design incorporates the materials, proportions, details and accessories from the original timber framed, pitched roof buildings. Externally the blue timber cladding of the changing rooms is broken up by white cubicle doors to reflect the club's colours. A band of clerestory glazing above allows natural light into the building and a zinc clad roof matches the grey slate roof of the original building.
The pool tank and basement plant room structures were all formed in waterproof concrete. Above ground level the buildings were formed as prefabricated timber cassette structures which were critical to giving the roof profile its distinctive shape.
