Our proposal replaces an existing extension to the rear of a double fronted Victorian house
The new extension expands the ground floor accomodation out towards the garden across the full width of the property, enclosing a small atrium, that divides the plan into a series of smaller spaces.
The structure comprises a series of glulam beams with only two column positions. The long spans allow for a fully glazed facade to the garden and the internal atrium space.
Bricks salvages from the previous extension are used in the new flank walls and these are exposed internally to the new breakfast room.
Large sliding doors lead out onto a new terrace area and a timber brise soleil, suspended between two parallel beams, filters light into the new rooms, and mediates between the internal and external spaces.
