Extension and refurbishment of a semi-detached private house, to provide new kitchen, dining and utility space with landscaped garden
In the summer of 2010 naganJohnson architects were asked by Sian and Chris Dodwell to rethink their semi-detached home in Emlyn Road, London, into an improved and sustainable home for their young family. The existing property was built at the beginning of the twentieth century on the eastern boundary of the Ravenscourt and Starch Green Conservation Area, which consisted mainly of semi-detached houses with rear extensions.
The existing rear extension was transformed by glazing the entire garden façade, opening the living spaces to an uninterrupted vantage point and detailing a continuous stone floor from inside to out. The contemporary refurbishment flooded light into the centre of the plan, whilst introducing a passive ventilation system.
