Addition of new bathroom and loft to an existing

Our project at 72 Parkhall Road is a loft conversion and rear extension at the upper level of the Quinn’s family home. The whole of the top floor addition was adopted as the master bedroom suite because of its special views of Crystal Palace and the uniqueness of simply being at the top of the house.

The project is special as it has a fully glazed frameless roof over both the new shower room and also above the new stair extension (2.5m x 4.2m). The stimulus of this innovation simply came when the client asked for a larger rooflight over the proposed shower and we glibly responded saying you can have the whole of the roof glass which they thought was a brilliant idea.

The installation of the frameless glass roof immediately transformed the heart of a rather dark Victorian house into a light vibrant stairwell and ensuite area of the master bedroom. The client takes great enjoyment from the openness of the roof which also has a ‘living’ character of its own reflecting the ever changing weather from the streaming sunshine to the rhythm of the rain to the blanket of snow – every day is different and enjoyable.

Careful detailing and co-ordination of trades made the final product most worthwhile and alluring. The high level of joinery in the stair extension and loft conversion simply reinforced the overall care and design of this installation.
