Secondary school on a split-site masterplan consisting of community campus and housing developments
The college buildings are based on strong axial route centred on the entrance to the community campus facilities. Six learning bases are arranged on either side of a central atrium, which contains shared resource and support areas, including a theatre, drama studios, dining areas.
The first floor of the atrium, which contains an open plan library and two courtyards, is connected to the ground floor by an area of terraced seating and access externally by two bridges to the north of the building.
The school building is designed on a rigorous grid system with structure and services coordinated to allow movable partitions, creating a range of room sizes.
The ceiling design exposes the thermal mass of the concrete while acoustic baffles are suspended from it. All block work walls are non-structural so they can be altered if changes are required.
The sports hall is lined with plywood, has ceramic floor tiles and polycarbonate cladding along with lacquered beech flooring.
The campus has a good/excellent rating from CABE school design review and a very good BREEAM rating.
