The inner court seen from south east corner

Brick-structured University accommodation for Caius College in Cambridge
The building is placed at the northern end of the site adjoining West Road in order to take the maximum advantage of the existing garden to the south. The site is adjacent to other properties owned by the College so that future expansion is possible.
The isolation of the site and its lack of prospect to north, east and west suggested a form as self contained as possible, but capable of opening out to the south.
The rooms are therefore arranged in stepped terraces round a square central court. All rooms on three sides of this court, in the east, west and north wings, face inwards and receive light from the east, west and south.
The main structure is brick and this is used throughout on parapets and as paving to the court. The roof covering is copper and all metal flashings are in lead coated copper to avoid staining.
