Reconfiguration and extension of a narrow detached house to provide increased living space
Limited space to the side of the property created the first design obstacle. A 1.2m wide extension over two storeys constructed from a lightweight timber frame and simply detailed with western red cedar cladding and large areas of glazing - providing a new and efficient stair, artist's studio and the enlargement of other living and bedroom areas.
The service and storage spaces within the new extension displaced the buildings services, allowing the existing plan of the house to support open-plan living.
