Combined healthcare and two-storey community library in Cleadon Park, Tyneside

The primary care centre occupies a highly visible corner site and brings brings together a wide range of healthcare services under one roof. The building also includes a library, that has four times the space of the old facility, meeting rooms, a welfare office, crèche, cafe and pharmacy.

With many facilities occupying the same structure accessibility is key. The buildings different functions are laid out logically and supported by clear signage.

A biomass boiler provides approximately 75 per cent of annual heat demand and rainwater is harvested to provide water for toilet flushing. There is also a high level of natural lighting and ventilation throughout the building.
