A 'one-stop shop' student services centre at the University's Highfield Campus
The Centre provides 2500m2 of adaptable space, comprising an atrium and open-plan offices.
The architect sought to prioritise sustainability in this project: the building is naturally ventilated and uses the high, thermal mass of its own structure to assist in cooling. Integrated photovoltaic cells on the atrium roof provide solar power and return energy to the grid.
Furthermore, systems have been implemented to harvest rainwater and minimise artificial lighting. This lighting, as well as heating, is BMS-controlled and the dominant material is extensively engineered timber.
