Garden merging into roof
Residential villa outside Barcelona, Spain
The exterior is defined by translucent polycarbonate walls, whilst the interior is minimalist and subtle: materials include red-brown Jatoba wood in the kitchen, black pigmented concrete flooring in the lounge; the staircase is presented more as a sculpted piece of furniture than a route between floors.
The garden extends into a grassy green roof which also practically functions keeping the temperature cool and even throughout the seasons.
Contrast is intended between the ground and first floors, by a series of unaligned columns and a cantilevered lounge area.
Steel square hollow sections have replaced the monoloithic concrete structure of the initial plan, and the outer walls are composed of clay brick: a typical, cost-effective system for a Spanish villa.
