Temporary theatre next to the National Theatre on the South Bank
The building provides a temporary venue for the National Theatre while the Cottesloe theatre is being refurbished.
The 225-seat auditorium is arranged in a thrust stage configuration, and can be reconfigurable as a theatre in the round, an arrangement which none of the auditoria at the National currently provides.
A temporary foyer has been carved out from the space beneath the National Theatre's external terraces and provides a connection to the existing foyers.
The theatre is clad in red stained rough-sawn softwood and Rodeca panels, with unfinished internal steel members. The highly visible red boarding continues across the felt roof and there are four red corner ventilation towers.
