A fit out for a specialist wine shop and bar in Wapping
The design sought to pick up on the character and heritage of the area which is part of London’s historic docklands. The stripped out bare brick walls are left exposed as an archeaological record of former interiors. The new elements of the bar and shop sit in the space as an assemblage of both industrial materials and contrasting finer materials of the bar counter.
The use of the wine boxes as one of the principle elements in the design is a reference to the notion of containment and transport of wine, and by association to the story of trade and movement of goods that is part of Wapping’s history.
The bar is situated at the centre of the space which defines specific areas of front and rear, and bar and shop and allows the staff to monitor and relate to those spaces at all times.
