Extension of a one form entry primary school to provide a new entrance and internal remodelling of administration areas
Footprint Architects were commissioned to design a new entrance for Downton Primary School. The school is a Grade 2 listed, 210 place primary school set in the rural village of Downton.
The design was conceived as an entrance pavilion set within the school garden and focused on combining the retention of important views to the historic listed building with the school's vision of creating a bright, airy and welcoming village school.
Originally conceived with a living wall, the entrance features a curved rendered wall that will eventually be covered in a variety of climbers. The glazed facade is created using faceted composite velfac windows and frames views of the listed building as well as providing views into the garden from the entrance.
Externally curved bands of paving radiate outwards to the pedestrian school gates creating a welcoming approach to the modest contemporary entrance.
