Mixed use development on Clapham High Street containing a public library and health centre topped with 11 stories of residential accomodation
Housed in a group of 12 storey clustered towers the building's community spaces, the library and health centre, are placed on the ground floor, with 136 private and 44 affordable flats placed above.
The 1750m2 library, which contains 20,000 books, is arranged around a triple-height space with a double-laned ramp divided by low-level shelving spirals wrapped around its perimeter. From the reception the ramp leads up to a reading area and down to the children’s library, which is also used for performances viewed from the lower level or from the ramp and ancillary spaces above.
As noise from the main road ruled out individual flat balconies the towers that contain double loaded appartments step down to the row housing in St Luke’s Avenue forming landscaped communal terraces. On the high street corner at ground level these flats rest on a column decked out as a tapering, silicone render-clad feature.
