Refurbished Royal Mail sorting office that provides offices, art galleries and loft style apartments for design and arts-based tenants
The design primarily consists of open shared space, with large design arts centres on the ground, first and third floors and open plan studio space on the second floor. Tenancies are divided into small to medium-sized units with shared facilities. The brief also includes a shared showroom for meeting clients and exhibiting artwork on the ground floor.
Residential accommodation is located on the upper floors of the building, providing loft style apartments that retain existing high ceilings and large Victorian windows.
The architects have retained many of the red brick building’s original Victorian features. Internally, existing steel beams and columns have been refurbished and the original ceiling exposed. Interior material detailing includes the use of glazed ceramic bricks, stone and wrought iron.
Externally, the front facades has been cleaned and repaired with new large-pane windows inserted to maximise natural light inside the building.
