University library consisting of two independent blocks linked by a ground level social space

At ground level, this six-storey library building contains administration and ancillary facilities including a bindery, photo studio and dark room.

The first floor contains the main reader services, catalogue, periodicals and a listening room. The remaining four levels of the main block are designed for open access book storage with reader places at the periphery of the plan.

A two-storey entrance block containing cloakrooms, lavatories and exhibition area is able to operate independently of the main library, to which it is connected by a ground floor coffee bar and social space.

The Library's structural frame is constructed from a series of reinforced concrete perimeter columns. Externally, the columns and slab edges are clad in ceramic tiling on a screed backing.
