Complete restoration and rebuilding of a late-Victorian church following fire damage
The fire damage complicated the first steps of the project because the load-bearing masonry walls and piers needed structural analysis prior to works commencing.
The aim was to build a structurally sound new-build design without compromising repair to the remaining sections. The roof has been replaced by exposed steel frame in a contemporary design, while inside lighting is suspended from the roof trusses.
The flooring has also been replaced with reinforced concrete with integral beams. By contrast, the west end extension is defiantly unsympathetic to the historic building and reminiscent of 1980s Post-Modernism.
